There is an important exception to this rule, which I am sure to be called out on – the moons of Uranus do not follow this particular astronomical naming convention. They are named after characters from Shakespeare. Except for some that aren’t. They are named after characters from an Alexander Pope poem. I don’t know why. Man, screw Uranus. (Hur hur)

Uranus’s moons are named after English literary characters because the original name of Uranus was George (the douchebag scientist who discovered was being sponsored by a King George) and so they reach that compromise to convince the then-all-powerful British to give up the name George for a planet. I wish they hadn’t. Planet George would have been cool!
That would have been cool! The moons could have been called Steve or Colin. Maybe one day they would find life ON Brian. :O
