I made a few minor changes to the site today… I added a permalink for each comic to make them easier for people to grab, and most noticably I added buttons for all the big social-network-site thingies. I had a bit of internal debate about whether I should do that, because Deed The Inky has a long standing tradition of not being commercial at all. That means no advertising, anywhere. But I figured there’s nothing wrong with giving a shout out to a site that you actually use, and no-one’s paying me to do it so I think I’m in the clear. Plus there’s a guy on Reddit called “Quasiperiodic” who awesomely adds Deed The Inky on there every now and again, so this should make life easier for him! Or her!

IN OTHER NEWS, you know that Tinyurl site, that replaces your URL with a much easier one? Someone has created a similar site, only a thousand times better because it replaces your URL with a line from Charles Dickens! I signed up for it right away, and I think I got a good one! So in the future, if you want to read Deed The Inky and you are in the mood to talk like a Victorian gentleman, you can type http://dickensurl.com/4303/Old_Marley_was_as_dead_as_a_doornail!

This was also around the time when I stopped hand-writing all the text in these cartoons, and just had a font made of my handwriting.You can tell the difference, but it's pretty close. Plus it shaved like an hour off the amount of time it took to finish a cartoon.

Pigs Can Do Worse

Since I drew this cartoon, I have had a chance to actually try this particular delicacy. I also discovered that a Baconator is actually the conservative choice, next to the double and triple Baconators. In the name of science, I ate the triple Baconator. I say ate, but I really mean Experienced. Actually I say Experienced but I really meant ate about half of and then went and watched Sherlock Holmes and worried about soiling myself for two hours.

Xenophobia Is Inevitable

Pretty much the exact same concept as the previous comic, only implemented way better. Plus if the ghostbuster gun was really real, you know that the most common use for it would be revenge. With a regular gun you can kill somebody, but with one of these you could kill someone, then catch their ghost in a tiny box and keep it forever. Imagine what would have happened to 50 Cent if these were real.

Disappointment Is Inevitable

Hmm. The title for this cartoon just about sums it up really. The point was supposed to be that if we actually had access to some of the stuff from movies, comics etc. We would just do something lame with it. I feel this is poorly implemented in the cartoon for the following reasons... 1. It's not funny. 2. Cutting a car in half with a steak knife is actually pretty awesome. I like this cartoon for the drawing of Wolverine, but aside from that this cartoon was fairly universally reviled.

A Sassy Endeavour

So you may have noticed on today’s cartoon that the text looks a little bit different, if you are the sort of person who notices these things. That is because I just got my handwriting made into a font. I used YourFonts, and it was super easy and just all-round awesome. The main reason I did this was not so much out of laziness, but saving time. Even though it might not look like it, each one of these cartoons takes about 2-3 hours to draw and colour. And about two-thirds of that is taken up with writing out all the lettering by hand. It turns out that it’s actually quite difficult to write legibly on a Wacom tablet, ’cause you’re not really looking at where the pen is making contact. I am sure it would be easier on a Cintiq, but unless someone likes Deed The Inky enough to spend $2000 at the Wacom store and send me one, this will have to do.
I am going to throw my hat into the ring right now, and predict that this will not happen. :)

The source eludes me for the time being, but I remember reading that NASA apparently threw out the plans for the original moon lander. So we couldn’t actually land on the moon right now if we wanted to. It’s weird, you’d think a museum or something would take them off their hands.

This was the first cartoon where I started to play around with the thicker outlines around the characters, which I think looks a lot better. I don’t do it in every single cartoon after this, but if I don’t it’s usually because I just forgot.
